North Sumatra Police Chief Urges Drug Awareness Among Students

Inp.polri.go.id - Medan.  Inspector General Agung Setya Imam Effendi, the North Sumatra Regional Police Chief, addressed the importance of raising awareness among students and the  general public regarding the dangers of drugs to achieve a Drug-Free Golden Indonesia by 2045. During a public lecture at St. Thomas Catholic University in Medan on Tuesday (19/3/2024), he emphasized that drug circulation leads to criminal activities, with 65 percent of users being involved. "This lecture aims to educate and raise awareness about the perils of drugs, laying the groundwork for a healthy society and realizing our vision of a Drug-Free Golden Indonesia by 2045," Chief Agung said, as reported by antaranews.com. The North Sumatra Police  recently announced that it had seized 209.4 kilograms of methamphetamine, 211.5 kilograms of marijuana plants, and 59,175 ecstasy pills from various drugs cases between January and mid-March 2024. These operations resulted in the arrest of 1,254 people, including 151 users and 1,103 drug network members. (mg/inp/pr/nm)
