Inp.polri.go.id - Purwokerto. Correctional facilities on Nusakambangan Island in Cilacap Regency, Central Java, have facilitated inmates to participate in the 2024 elections, an official said on Tuesday (24/10/2023), antaranews.com reported.
Mardi Santoso, the Regional Coordinator for Prisons in Nusakambangan and Cilacap, said that the ongoing coordination with the Department of Population and Civil Registration and the General Election Commission (KPU) of Cilacap Regency to ensure that inmates exercise their right to vote in the upcoming elections.
There are currently 2,112 inmates on Nusakambangan Island, including 1,897 Indonesian citizens and 215 foreigners.
Mardi acknowledged that the number of inmates registered to vote in the 2024 election could change due to the dynamic movement of inmates in and out of the island's prisons.
Weweng Maretno, the acting chairman of the KPU in Cilacap regency, confirmed that they've prepared 5,964 polling stations, including 17 special polling stations, for the upcoming elections.
