The State Palace addressed reports on Wednesday (18/2/2026) regarding alleged threats targeting Gadjah Mada University (UGM) Student Executive Board Chairman, Tiyo Ardianto, who   reportedly received kidnapping threats via WhatsApp from an international number after criticizing the government regarding the recentchild suicide case in East Nusa Tenggara. 

State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi said that while student criticism is constitutionally protected and legitimate, it must be delivered responsibly while upholding Eastern ethical standards and constructive dialogue.

"Expressing criticism or input is perfectly valid, but we urge everyone to do so with full responsibility and etiquette," he said, as cited by antaranews.com.

He emphasized that avoiding derogatory language is essential for all parties in a democracy. 

Regarding the specific harassment faced by Tiyo, which included accusations of being a foreign agent, State Secretary Prasetyo committed to investigating the matter further. He reminded the public that maintaining civil discourse and proper conduct ensures that feedback remains a productive learning tool for the nation rather than a source of conflict.
