inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Social and education observer Serian Wijatno said that Pancasila is a fortress for Indonesian society in fighting provocation in the era of social media.
In his statement in Jakarta, Serian explained that in the current era of social media, hoax news, hate speech, and other negative content have emerged that can threaten national unity.
This condition, he continued, is exacerbated by the fact that many people still do not understand how to use technology wisely. As a result, divisions arise in society.
"So, it triggers polarization and fragmentation of society, especially if society only interacts with people who have the same views," he said.
In addition, the weak supervision and effective regulation by the Government of content on social media also has the potential to give rise to horizontal conflict.
In the end, he said, most people have a dependence on technology that can make people forget the noble values of Pancasila and focus more on personal or group interests.
Therefore, Serian suggested building awareness of Pancasila so that the values of tolerance and unity in it can be a guideline for people to reject hoax news and hate speech.
