Inp.polri.go.id - Jayapura.  Acting Governor of Papua Mountains, Felix Wanggai, announced on Friday (4/10/2024) that the security situation in the region has gradually stabilized following a conflict between residents of Nduga and Lanny Jaya regencies.

"We addressed this conflict by strengthening cross-sector coordination, involving security forces, traditional leaders, the community, and the acting regents," he said, as quoted by antaranews.com..

The acting governor added that the government has agreed to provide compensation to residents affected by the dispute.

"We will assist in documenting and distributing compensation according to our capabilities," he stated.

Acting Governor Wanggai emphasized the importance of continuous coordination and consolidation to prevent similar incidents, especially with the upcoming regional elections.

"If there are areas for improvement, let us work together to keep Papua peaceful and secure," he urged.

Acting Regent of Nduga, Elai Giban, appreciated the swift resolution efforts and confirmed plans for discussions with officials from three neighboring regencies.

The conflict, which began on 28 September 2024, stemmed from a domestic dispute between couples from the Lanny Jaya and Nduga tribes.
