The closing ceremony, held at Stade de France in northern Paris and attended by approximately 71,500 spectators, marked the end of what has been acclaimed as one of the greatest Olympics in history.
Around 270 performers took the stage, while about 9,000 athletes paraded into the stadium as part of the celebration. French swimming hero Léon Marchand, who won four gold medals, extinguished the Olympic flame and carried it to Stade de France, as reported by antaranews.com.
Rugby star Antoine Dupont, who led France to gold, carried the French flag into the stadium amidst the athletes.
The closing ceremony also kicked off the countdown to the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, featuring performances by global actresses and singers.
On the final day, the U.S. women's basketball team won gold with a 67-66 victory over France, ensuring the U.S. topped the medal table with 126 medals, including 40 golds, surpassing China, which earned 91 medals and also 40 golds.
