inp.polri.go.id - Riau Islands. The Riau Islands Regional Police General Criminal Investigation Directorate arrested a man identified as TN in connection with the felling of hundreds of trees along Jenderal Sudirman street, Batam City.

Riau Islands Regional Police Public Relations Chief, Senior Superintendent Nona Pricillia Ohei, stated that the tree felling occurred on the evening of April 30, 2026, on Jenderal Sudirman street, from the Kapal Legenda Monument to the Cendana PLN substation.

"Around 300 trees were felled on Jenderal Sudirman street, carried out by the perpetrator, TN, at night between 9:00 PM and 11:00 PM," she said, Thursday (5/7/2026).

Meanwhile, the Vice Director of General Criminal Investigation of the Riau Islands Regional Police, Senior Superintendent Robby Topan Manusiwa, stated that the case was quickly followed up after it went viral on social media.

"This case went viral on TikTok, and we immediately launched an investigation at the scene. The suspect was apprehended on May 5th," he said.

For his actions, TN was charged under Article 521 of Law Number 1 of 2023 concerning the Criminal Code, which carries a penalty of two years and six months in prison and a fine of IDR 200 million.

The Riau Islands Regional Police are also coordinating with the Batam Social and Community Empowerment Agency to conduct a psychological assessment and provide guidance to the perpetrator, including follow-up action.
