The North Sumatran Police (Polda Sumut) have named one suspect because of smuggling 89 illegal Indonesian migrant workers (PMI) by a ship that sank in the waters of Tanjung Api, Asahan Regency. "After we developed and carried out an investigation, we have arrested one perpetrator with the initials H a.k.a S, a resident of Datuk Bandar District, Tanjungbalai City," stated the Deputy Director of the General Criminal Investigation (Wadireskrimum) of Polda Sumut, AKBP Alamsyah Hasibuan, Monday (21/03/22). AKBP Alamsyah Hasibuan explained that the suspect is the captain of the ship and was charged with the criminal act of human trafficking. Polda Sumut is still pursuing other suspects whose identities have been identified. "We are still pursuing other suspects and we expected them to surrender themselves," said the North Sumatran Police Intermediate Officer. The captain will be charged with the article related to human trafficking according to Law No. 21 concerning the crime of trafficking in persons with a threat of 10 years in prison.
