Police Arrest Suspected Courier in Orangutan Trafficking Case

The North Sumatra Regional Police has  arrested a man, identified as a 35-year-old Reza Heryadi for his involvement as the courier in the international orangutan trafficking network. The  trafficking of two orangutans from Aceh to Jakarta, was thwarted by the police in Medan, North Sumatra. "We are currently conducting an investigation into one of the buyers and the owner. The modus operandi of the international orangutan trade typically involves individual orders,.  In this particular case, the orangutans were transported from Aceh to Jakarta," said Police Senior Superintendent Hadi Wahyudi, the Head of Public Relations Unit of the North Sumatra Regional Police, on Monday (2/10/23). He said that the orangutan trafficking case was  uncovered  following a report from the Wildlife Justice Commission in Dubai, which provided crucial information and expressed concerns regarding the illicit trade.
