Inp.polri.go.id - Cilegon. The Cilegon Sub-Regional Police arrested two men suspected for their involvement in the production of counterfeit money as they tried to flee to Lampung.
The suspects, identified as MI, 35-year-old, and HI, 42-year-old. drew the attention of the police officers at the Dock 3 of the Merak Port as both men were to depart to Lampung. Another suspect was able to flee.
“After an inspection, the suspects were found to carry 6,600 counterfeit currency notes resembling rupiah worth a total of Rp 66 million,"said Police Superintendent Eko Tjahyo Untoro, the Chief of Cilegon Sub-Regional Police.
After further investigation, the police found that suspect HI involved in the production of counterfeit money. Another suspect identified as TJ, 43-year-old, was able to evade the police and is still at large, making him a wanted person.
At the counterfeit money production site in the Leuwiliang in Bogor Regency, West Java, the police confiscated two modified printers, a laptop, a set of color ink, a device for checking money, an iron, a screen printing tool, two boxes of paper materials, a ream of paper for printing images resembling foreign currency, 38 sheets of money straps, and one flash drive.
Both suspects MI and HI are charged Article 36 of Law No. 7 of 2011 on Currency, which carries a maximum penalty of 15 years imprisonment.
