inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Police have uncovered a counterfeit oil factory in the Cengkareng area of West Jakarta. The illegal products were being sold at prices comparable to genuine oil on the market.
The Head of the Criminal Investigation Unit of the West Jakarta Sub-regional Metro Police, Superintendent Arfan Zulkan Sipayung, stated that the counterfeit oil was being sold for around IDR 5.8 million per drum. The perpetrators also used social media to market their products.
"They were selling it at the same price as genuine Pertamina oil," Arfan said at a press conference in Jakarta on Tuesday (9/2/2026).
According to Arfan, based on preliminary information from the suspect, they market their product through Facebook. Police are still investigating the marketing network and distribution channels for the counterfeit oil.
"According to information from the suspect, he was selling through Facebook. We are currently investigating his sales channels," he said.
Previously, the West Jakarta Sub-regional Metro Police uncovered a counterfeit oil production and distribution site in the Cengkareng warehouse area.
Police found used oil that had been treated with chemicals to make it appear clearer. After that, the oil is packaged and labeled to resemble official Pertamina products.
West Jakarta Sub-regional Metro Police Chief, Senior Superintendent Nasriadi, said that the used oil, which was originally jet black, was mixed with chemicals such as dentin and paraffin to make it appear clear.
"So, the used oil, which was already jet black, was mixed with dentin and paraffin to make it appear clear. But the quality is still that of used oil," said Nasriadi.
Police arrested three suspects with the initials Y, H, and K. Y is said to be the business owner, financier, and intellectual figure in the business. He is suspected of directing the other two suspects in the counterfeit oil production process.
The perpetrators not only processed the used oil, but also manufactured various equipment to make their products look like official oil. Everything from drums, cap molds, stickers, and barcodes were made illegally.
"So, after being mixed with dentin and paraffin, the oil was then packaged in such a way as to resemble an official Pertamina product," said Nasriadi.
From the location, police confiscated 18 reconditioned oil drums, 10 drums of oil raw materials, and various equipment used to produce and package counterfeit oil. The illegal business is estimated to generate profits of around IDR 35 million per month.
In two years of operation, the perpetrators reportedly pocketed nearly IDR 864 million in profits.
"Officers confiscated several pieces of evidence, including 18 reconditioned oil drums and 10 drums of oil raw materials, as well as various equipment used to produce and package counterfeit oil," he explained.
