Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The West Jakarta Metropolitan Police uncovered a significant drug operation led by Murtala, responsible for trafficking methamphetamine from Malaysia to Medan, Aceh, and Jakarta. Brigadier General Suyudi Ario Seto, Deputy Chief of the West Jakarta Police, revealed that the crackdown began in October 2023 following the confiscation of 1 kilogram of methamphetamine at Soekarno-Hatta Airport. "Our investigative team made substantial progress from November to January 2024, resulting in the arrest of WP and RP with 5 kilograms of methamphetamine," he said on Wednesday (6/3/2024). Further investigation revealed methamphetamine transactions at the Travoy Rest Area Km 65A, Keluran Tana Raja, Sei Rampai District, Serdang Bedagang, North Sumatra. ST (44) and AN (42) were apprehended with 5 packages of methamphetamine weighing 5 kilograms. They confessed to a drug warehouse's existence in Cluster Gebang, Taman Sari Village, Medan, North Sumatra. Subsequently, MR and MT, alias Murtala, were arrested. "MT, a repeat drug offender, was previously detained and arrested for drug trafficking. Our team successfully apprehended him again," Chief Suyudi explained. During Murtala's arrest, six container boxes containing 100 packages of methamphetamine, totaling 100 kilograms, were seized. Through MT's arrest, the group's mastermind or primary dealer, suspect ML, was arrested at a coffee shop in Ciracas, East Jakarta. For their crimes, Murtala and his associates face charges under the Narcotics Law, with penalties ranging from the death penalty to life imprisonment or a minimum of 6 years and a maximum of 20 years in prison. "Through this operation, we estimate that we have saved 1.1 million lives. Considering each gram of methamphetamine consumed by 10 people, the total value is 10,000 grams, meaning we could save 1.1 million lives," Chief Suyudi said.. (mg/ay/hn/nm)
