Lampung Police Expose Two Malaysian Drug Networks

The Lampung Regional Police have exposed two Malaysian drug networks, functioning as international syndicates and frequently exploiting the province as a smuggling route. "We've uncovered two networks involved in trafficking methamphetamine from Malaysia, seizing a total of 87.5 kilograms of the substance," Lampung Police Chief Inspector General Helmy Santika said  on Wednesday. These two international syndicates, using Lampung as a transit hub to smuggle drugs into Java, were uncovered in separate incidents, he said. "From these operations, we've apprehended a total of 20 suspects and confiscated evidence valued at Rp131 billion," Chief Helmy added. Senior Superintendent Erlin Tangjaya from the Lampung Regional Police Narcotics Investigation Directorate revealed that they first uncovered an international drug syndicate at Bakauheni Port where, they seized 52.4 kilograms of methamphetamine. Fifteen individuals linked to this syndicate were apprehended in various locations. Subsequently, another incident involving the syndicate occurred in February at Seaport Interdiction Bakauheni Port, South Lampung. During this operation, 35.1 kilograms of methamphetamine were intercepted. The drugs were concealed in a black bag, comprising 33 packages, and hidden behind the passenger seat. Five individuals associated with this syndicate were apprehended. (mg/inp/pr/nm)
