Inp.polri.go.id - West Sumatera. Brigadier General Edi Mardiyanto, the Vice Chief of West Sumatra Regional Police, officially announced the conclusion of the search operation for the Mount Marapi eruption victims on Wednesday (6/12/23) night.
"Effective tonight, all teams involved in the search operation will return to their respective units," he said.
The decision to conclude the search operation stemmed from the successful identification of all victims registered in the online booking system of the West Sumatra Provincial Natural Resources Conservation Center (BKSDA).
While the fifty-two climbers were found safe, the remaining individuals did not survive. The deceased victims have been transferred to Achmad Mochtar Hospital (RSAM) in Bukittinggi City, where the Disaster Victim Identification (DVI) team from West Sumatra Police will carry out the identification process.
Currently, Mount Marapi maintains a level II alert status. He urged regional heads, police chiefs, and district military commanders to remain vigilant about the potential for future eruptions.
Families concerned about missing relatives in the Mount Marapi area are advised to report to RSAM Bukittinggi. The hospital has been designated as the central location for the identification of body data, providing essential support and information to the families of the victims.
