inp.polri.go.id - Palembang. The South Sumatra Regional Police are strengthening their institutional commitment to supporting national energy security. This concrete step was realized through the signing of a Cooperation Agreement with PT Pertamina Eksplorasi dan Produksi (EP).

South Sumatra Regional Police Chief, Inspector General Sandi Nugroho, emphasized that this agreement demonstrates the police's full support for the implementation of Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Regulation No. 14 of 2025.

This regulation regulates the management of oil wells by Regionally-Owned Enterprises (BUMD), Cooperatives, and MSMEs to ensure orderly, safe, legal, and productive operations.

"The primary commitment of this oil well management is to ensure there are no more fatalities due to workplace accidents and no further environmental pollution. Moving forward, we must work together to revitalize the impacted environment. This is our responsibility to ensure the future of our children and grandchildren," said Sandi in his remarks on Monday (5/11/2026).

He further explained that this collaboration aims to transform previously illicit activities into legal and structured ones. He also encouraged Pertamina to maximize the absorption of community production, with transparent quality standards and purchase prices, so that community welfare can be significantly improved.

According to him, the presence of the police in the field is specifically aimed at providing legal certainty and anticipating potential social conflicts within the community. The primary approach prioritized is preemptive and preventive measures through legal education and ongoing development, in synergy with the cross-sectoral Integrated Task Force.

Sandi also issued a warning to parties who fail to comply with the new governance agreement.

"For those who still attempt to carry out refining or drilling practices outside of this agreed governance, we, the South Sumatra Regional Police, are fully committed to taking firm legal action," he calls.

Through this cross-sectoral synergy, various potential dynamics in the field can be anticipated. This is expected to increase oil lifting, improve community welfare, maintain environmental sustainability, and maintain a conducive security situation.
