The Central Jakarta Metro Police have questioned two new witnesses  and investigated into the security and electrical systems in their quest to uncover the origins of the fire that ravaged the National Museum. "We are conducting an examination of the museum's existing systems, encompassing both its security and electrical infrastructure," stated Senior Superintendent Komarudin, Chief of the Central Jakarta Metro Police, during a press briefing held at the National Museum on Jalan Medan Merdeka Barat, Central Jakarta, on Tuesday (19/9/2023) as reported by antaranews.com. The two new witnesses under National Museum fire investigation include a museum personnel and a supervisor. Their statements will undergo rigorous scrutiny, and their accounts will be cross-referenced with findings from the forensic laboratory situated at the crime scene. With the addition of these two new witnesses, Chief Komarudin disclosed that the total number of individuals questioned in relation to the museum fire now stands at 24, encompassing security personnel and construction workers. In the wake of the fire that engulfed Building A on the night of September 16th, the National Museum has embarked on an inventory process, meticulously cataloging and registering its invaluable historical collections and artifacts.
Ahmad Mahendra, Acting Head of the Museum and Cultural Heritage (MCB), outlined the comprehensive inventory aimed at precise documentation of historical artifacts and essential conservation during the recovery phase. He added that the Special Handling Team of the Indonesian National Museum (MNI) received an initial report on September 18th, which pinpointed the fire's origin in the rear section of Building A, resulting in damage to nearby rooms.(mg/inp/pr/nm)
