Inp.polri.go.id - Semarang. The Semarang Sub-regional Police have formally named five individuals as suspects in a case involving the attempted smuggling of 226 dogs intended for human consumption to Sragen.
According to reports from antaranews.com, Senior Superintendent Irwan Anwar, Chief of Semarang Police, announced on Monday that one of the suspects, DH, a resident of Gemolong in Sragen, is the alleged buyer of the dogs who have placed the orders several times. The remaining four suspects are reported to be crew members of the truck transporting the dogs, contributing to the illicit shipment for consumption, antaranews.com reported. Chief Irwan explained that the 226 dogs were sourced from the Subang in West Java. Out of the total 226 dogs, 12 were found dead. "We have sent samples of the deceased dogs to Airlangga University for further examination," he added, highlighting that the surviving dogs have been placed in a shelter in Semarang. The suspects will be charged under Law No. 41 of 2014 on Animal Husbandry and Animal Health. The police intercepted a truck carrying hundreds of dogs without official documentation at the Kalikangkung Toll Gate in Semarang on Saturday night following a report by animal rights activists.
