Inp.polri.go.id - Purwokerto. The Banyumas Police in Central Java are investigating an alleged online scam involving extortion targeting a local doctor.

“We’ve received the report and have questioned four witnesses so far, including the victim. This case is a reminder for all of us to be careful when using mobile phones and to be cautious of unknown numbers,” said Senior Inspector Andriansyah Rithas Hasibuan, the Head of the Banyumas Police Criminal Investigation Unit, on Thursday (22/5/2025).

The doctor’s lawyer, Prih Utami, said the incident began with a video call from an unknown number in March. Thinking it could be from a patient, the doctor answered..

No one spoke during the call, but later the number sent a message offering a business deal worth hundreds of millions of rupiah. In April, another message followed, which turned into threats and claims of an indecent video.

The victim ignored the threats but the fake video was circulated on 24 April 2025.
