Inp.polri.go.id - Pinrang. A high-stakes operation by the Drug Investigation Unit of the South Sulawesi Regional Police took a violent turn as they attempted to arrest a drug trafficking suspect, who stabbed a police officer in his abdomen.
According to Assistant Superintendent Andi Sofyan, the Head of the Special Crime Unit for Narcotics of the South Sulawesi Police, the suspect, identified as Asrul, resisted arrest and stabbed Second Brigadier Jeris in Bungi Village in December last year.
"The suspect involved in the distribution of crystal methamphetamine," he said on on Sunday (7/1/2024).
In response to the assault on the police officer, the police officers were forced to open fire, shooting the suspect in the leg before arresting him.
Following the incident, a thorough search was conducted, leading to the discovery of approximately 248.56 grams of crystal methamphetamine in a bag. The illicit substance was found discarded on the ground, believed to have been thrown away by the suspect during the incident.
The injured police officer has received medical treatment, and the suspect will face charges related to drug trafficking and assaulting a police officer.
