inp.polri.go.id - East Java. The East Java Regional Police have uncovered an online explosives distribution network. Two suspects, identified as MAJ (28) and BAW (18), were arrested during the investigation.
The Head of Public Relations for the East Java Regional Police, Senior Superintendent Jules Abraham Abast, explained that the case came to light after receiving information about a firecracker transaction on Thursday (February 26, 2026) in Gayungan, Surabaya.
The investigative team then went to the location and arrested the suspects along with evidence: 1 kg of firecracker powder, two cell phones, a motorcycle, and IDR 210,000 in cash.
According to Abast, suspect MAJ was involved in purchasing chemicals through marketplaces and fertilizer stores. He also mixed the gunpowder at his home.
"The suspect then offered the products through a WhatsApp group called Huru Hara," explained Jules, Tuesday (3/3/2026).
He explained that suspect BAW was involved in selling explosives prepared by suspect MAJ through a Facebook account under the username of Bahar Agung. The suspect admitted selling the explosives for profit.
"The suspect is being charged under Article 306 of the Criminal Code, which carries a maximum sentence of 15 years in prison," said Jules.
