inp.polri.go.id - Mimika. The joint team of 2026 Damai Cartenz Operation Task Force arrested a man suspected to be involved in the spreading of propaganda and provocation through social media.
The arrest was taken at the SP3 Trans DMT Utikini Tiga, Kuala Kencana, Mimika, Central Papua, after authorities obtained sufficient preliminary evidence of digital activity deemed to have triggered public unrest.
Based on the initial investigation, the alleged perpetrator was identified as part of the Papua Intelligence Service (PIS) network. He is suspected of actively uploading content containing hate speech, provocative narratives, and violent material related to armed criminal groups (KKB). These posts are considered to have the potential to incite hatred and hostility and disrupt public order and security in Papua.
Based on the case presentation, the alleged perpetrator is suspected of violating Article 263 of Law Number 1 of 2023 concerning the Criminal Code and Article 35 of Law Number 1 of 2024 concerning Amendments to Law Number 11 of 2008 concerning Electronic Information and Transactions (ITE). For his actions, he faces a maximum sentence of 12 years in prison and a maximum fine of IDR 12 billion.
The Head of 2026 Damai Cartenz Operation Task Force, Brigadier General Faizal Ramadhani, emphasized that taking action against perpetrators of digital propaganda is part of a strategy to maintain security stability, including in cyberspace.
"We will not give space to parties who spread provocation, manipulate information, or content that has the potential to divide our unity. This law enforcement is a form of state protection to prevent the misuse of digital space to spread hatred and incite conflict," he emphasized.
These law enforcement efforts represent a concrete manifestation of the state's commitment to protecting the public and maintaining security and stability in Papua.
