inp.polri.go.id - Bekasi Regency. The Bekasi City Sub-regional Metro Police have uncovered an illegal practice of misusing subsidized LPG gas, also known as "gas injection."
Bekasi City Sub-regional Metro Police Chief, Senior Superintendent Sumarni, explained that the case was uncovered as a result of an investigation into the alleged adulteration of subsidized 3-kilogram LPG gas into non-subsidized 12-kilogram gas cylinders. The illegal practice took place in the South Cikarang District, Bekasi Regency.
"In this investigation, the police arrested three suspects: RKA, the stall owner; MH, the loading and unloading driver; and MRT, the assistant," he explained on Monday (1/19/2026).
In addition to the perpetrators, the Police Chief said, officers also confiscated hundreds of gas cylinders of various sizes, gas injection equipment, scales, cylinder seals, a pickup truck, and two mobile phones used in the illegal activity.
To fill one 12-kilogram cylinder, she said, the perpetrators needed four 3-kilogram subsidized gas cylinders. She stated that the adulterated gas was then sold to several areas in Jakarta.
"This type of misuse not only harms the state but also has the potential to cause shortages, endanger public safety, and usurp the rights of residents who should be receiving subsidies," said Sumarni.
She added that preliminary investigations indicate that the illegal practice has been going on since October 2025, with estimated profits reaching hundreds of millions of rupiah. The suspects are being charged under the Oil and Gas Law, the Legal Metrology Law, and the Consumer Protection Law.
"We will continue to monitor and enforce the law against the misuse of subsidized gas. If the public encounters similar illegal practices or disturbances to public order, they should immediately contact the police at 110," she explained.
