The Directorate of Certain Crimes (Dittipidter) of Indonesian National Police (INP) Criminal Investigation Unit has uncovered a case of misuse of subsidized fuel of Solar in Kolaka, Southeast Sulawesi. In this case, the alleged perpetrator will undergo an examination this week.

The Director of Certain Crimes (Dirtipidter) of INP, Brigadier General Nunung Syaifuddin, revealed that the results of the investigation showed that there was a practice of misusing the distribution of subsidized fuel that was detrimental to state and public finances. Then, there were indications of loose governance of fuel distribution in the area.

"We found a number of pieces of evidence, including three tanker trucks, a number of reservoirs, and subsidized solar that had been misused, and we also found tools used to move and sell the illegal subsidized fuel," said Nunung on Monday (3/3/2025).

Nunung explained that the modus operandi of this illegal activity involved moving subsidized diesel, that should have been distributed to gas stations, to unauthorized storage warehouses. Then, it was moved to industrial tanks to be sold at non-subsidized prices.

"We also found that they manipulate the truck GPS to smoothen their operation" he explained.

The total amount of subsidized fuel confiscated reached 10,957 liters, which was the remainder of previous misuse. Nunung added that investigators had examined 15 witnesses.

Furthermore, Nunung continued that this illegal activity has the potential to cause large state losses with an estimated loss of more than IDR 105 billion over the past two years in the Kolaka area alone.

"We are committed to developing this investigation and exposing other parties involved in the misuse of subsidized fuel," he said.
