Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Pope Francis, the leader of the global Catholic Church and Head of State of Vatican City, has prayed for Indonesia to be blessed with peace.
“May God bless Indonesia with peace for a hopeful future. God bless you all,” he said on Wednesday (4/9/2024)).
The Pope’s prayer highlighted Indonesia’s unity in diversity. He admired Indonesia’s motto, Bhinneka Tunggal Ika, meaning Unity in Diversity.
Pope Francis referenced a 1989 statement by Saint John Paul II during his visit to Indonesia, which emphasized that acknowledging diversity, respecting human rights, and promoting national unity based on tolerance and mutual respect have laid the foundation for a just and peaceful society.
He affirmed that these principles remain valid, serving as a beacon lighting the way. Pope Francis hoped that everyone could draw inspiration from these principles and apply them in their daily lives.
“Harmony is achieved when we commit not only to our own interests and visions but to the common good, by building bridges, strengthening agreements, and uniting efforts to overcome all forms of moral, economic, and social suffering, advancing peace and harmony,” Pope Francis said.
