Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Minister of Religious Affairs Yaqut Cholil Qoumas announced on Sunday (32/3/2024) that the leader of the Catholic Church, Pope Francis, is scheduled to visit Indonesia on 3 September 2024.
The minister confirmed that the government has received a notification letter from the Vatican authorities regarding Pope Francis's planned visit.
"Based on the letter from the Vatican received by the Indonesian Government, Pope Francis will be present on September 3, 2024. This is undoubtedly an honor for the Indonesian nation," Minister Yaqut said, as reported by antaranews.com.
According to the minister, the arrival of the highest leader of the Catholic community has been eagerly awaited by President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo.
"In June 2022, I delivered an invitation letter from President Jokowi to Pope Francis. Thank God, after almost two years of waiting, Pope Francis can finally come to Indonesia. I think this is also a special gift for the Catholic community," he said.
Minister Yaqut hoped that during his visit, Pope Francis could witness firsthand the diversity and brotherhood among religious communities that thrive in Indonesian society.
