Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. General Maruli Simanjuntak, the Army Chief of Staff, apologized to the public following the explosion at the Regional Ammunition Warehouse of the Jakarta Military Command in Ciangsana Village, Gunung Putri, Bogor Regency, West Java, on Saturday night.
Speaking on Sunday (31/3/2024), he expressed deep regret for the incident and acknowledged the inconvenience caused to the community.
While there were no casualties in the explosion, hundreds of residents were forced to evacuate for safety reasons.
Commander Maruli explained that the warehouse contained disposed ammunition, and the Army will undertake measures to categorize and handle the ammunition types more effectively to prevent similar incidents in the future, as reported by antaranews.com.
He assured that despite the severe damage to the site, the warehouse's construction in 2000 ensured its safety. Out of the ten warehouses in the vicinity, only one exploded, while six others caught fire. One of the warehoses stored around 160,000 expired ammunition and explosive materials.
