Senior Superintendent Hengki, the Director of the Narcotics Unit at Jakarta's Metro Jaya Regional Police, disclosed on Monday (26/3/2024) a smuggling scheme involving liquid cocaine hidden in various shampoo bottles by a Portuguese courier. The courier, identified as RPAV, was paid 6,000 euros (about Rp 102 million) per trip to transport the liquid cocaine from Portugal to Indonesia. "He personally transported the liquid cocaine on a flight from Portugal to Soekarno-Hatta Airport," explained Chief Hengki. RPAV was arrested at Soekarno-Hatta Airport's Terminal 3 International Arrivals on Sunday. Following his interrogation, another Portuguese citizen, FMGS, was arrested in Bandung for his involvement in the smuggling operation. In addition, the police detained another courier, identified as NK, and two other suspects, AM and LS. All suspects involved face charges under Law Number 35 of 2009 on Narcotics, which carries a minimum prison sentence of five years and a maximum of 20 years for drug smuggling offenses. (mg/ri/pr/nm)
