inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. President Prabowo Subianto stated that the school improvement program will continue to be expanded to all schools in Indonesia, including Islamic boarding schools (pesantren), and the renovation process is targeted for completion by 2029.

Prabowo made this statement in his state address at the 2026 Annual Session of the People's Consultative Assembly (MPR) and the Joint Session of the Regional Representative Council (DPD) and the House of Representatives (DPR) at the Parliament Complex, Senayan, Jakarta, on Friday (8/14/2026).

"By 2029, all schools in Indonesia—elementary, junior high, senior high, and vocational high schools, including Islamic boarding schools—must be renovated," he said.

Prabowo stated that providing nutritious food alone is not enough to build the quality of human resources.

According to Prabowo, Indonesian children must also receive a good education supported by adequate school facilities.

"We realize that providing nutritious food alone is not enough. Our children must receive a good education," Prabowo said.

Therefore, the government is implementing a large-scale school improvement program. Prabowo stated that by 2026, 71,744 schools had been renovated.

This number increased compared to the previous year, which reached around 17,000 schools. The government is targeting the renovation of 100,000 schools in 2027 and another 100,000 schools in 2028.

Prabowo emphasized that the program also reaches the outermost and remote areas.

The Head of State cited the example of a school on Miangas Island that has been renovated. The government will also repair community health centers in the area.

Prabowo said the government has now formed a special task force to address the needs of the outermost and remote islands, from Sabang to Merauke.

"Now there is a special task force for the outermost and remote islands in Sabang, Indonesia's westernmost island, in Merauke, and throughout Indonesia," said the President.
