inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. President Prabowo Subianto instructed all stakeholders to work to extinguish fires as soon as they are detected and to ensure that the wildfire does not spread.
While chairing a coordination meeting on forest and land fire management in Sumatra in Palembang, South Sumatra, on Monday (8/24/2026), President Prabowo ensured that monitoring of hotspots and fire spots would continue, including through aerial surveillance using aircraft and drones.
"We will immediately dispatch a team to extinguish them as soon as we find out. We must ensure they don't spread wildly," the President said.
Specifically for South Sumatra, the President also received reports that the forest and land fires in that region are under control, with approximately 199 hectares remaining under firefighting efforts.
The Head of State expressed his appreciation for the efforts made by relevant parties, which began several months ago.
The President also stated that he would seek solutions to address the ongoing haze, including in Palembang.
At the meeting, the President also encouraged the development of a fire extinguisher based on cassava flour as an alternative in forest and land fire management.
He hoped the development of this alternative liquid, which he called "cassava bombing," would assist in extinguishing fires that have traditionally used water.
Prabowo requested that the cassava-based innovation be immediately developed and tested on a larger scale.
The Head of State also requested that the production budget be submitted immediately so the government can support research, production, and testing of its effectiveness.
In addition to handling forest and land fires in South Sumatra, the President also held an online coordination meeting with local governments in Jambi and Lampung regarding forest and land fire management in their respective regions.
