inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. President Prabowo Subianto has ordered additional equipment and personnel to expedite the handling of wildfires in four provinces in Sumatra, even though the situation is relatively under control.

Minister of State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi stated that the President inspected the handling of forest and land fires in Riau and South Sumatra and led a coordination meeting to ensure the fires are being managed in Sumatra.

"Today, he continued his trip to Sumatra Island. This morning, he visited Riau, Pekanbaru, and then Palembang, South Sumatra. Once again, this was to ensure the handling of the forest and land fires occurring in both Kalimantan and Sumatra. We had two coordination meetings, the last of which was also a Zoom meeting with the Regional Leadership Communication Forum of Jambi and Lampung," Prasetyo said at Sultan Mahmud Badaruddin II Airport, Palembang, South Sumatra, on Monday (8/24/2026) afternoon.

At the two coordination meetings, in Riau in the morning and Palembang in the afternoon, the President received reports on the forest and land fire situation in four provinces in Sumatra: Riau, Jambi, South Sumatra, and Lampung.

The Regional Leadership Coordination Forum of Jambi and Lampung participated in the coordination meeting online.

According to Prasetyo, the forest and land fire situation in the four provinces is relatively under control, with no hotspots detected in several areas. However, smoke persists, partly due to the characteristics of the peatlands.

"Thank God, on Sumatra Island, in four provinces, it's relatively under control. Some have reported no hotspots, but smoke continues to appear, because these are peatlands, and there was also some reported smoke due to the presence of coal in these areas, especially in Sumatra," he said.

Although the situation is relatively under control, the President still asked his staff to ensure the regions' needs to extinguish the remaining hotspots.
