President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo is set to launch the groundbreaking ceremony for the Very Very Important Person (VVIP) Airport in Nusantara (IKN), the future capital of Indonesia, on 1 November 2023. The Minister of Public Works and Housing, Basuki Hadimuljono, confirmed the preparation for the groundbreaking and announced the expected date of 1 November during discussions at the Presidential Palace on Monday (23/10/2023). The minister explained that President Jokowi will inaugurate the construction of the airport by laying the first brick, following his recent visit to West Sumatra province at the end of October. The development of the VVIP airport aims to prioritise convenience for potential investors travelling to Indonesia's future capital. In particular, the airport will have a helipad capable of accommodating three helicopters. With a significant allocation from the state budget (APBN) totalling Rp4.28 trillion (approximately US$268.5 million), construction will focus on a 3,000 x 45 metre runway designed to accommodate large aircraft such as the Boeing 777-300 ER and Airbus A380.
