Inp.polri.go.id - Surabaya. President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo called on Christians to maintain tolerance, peace, and unity during the political year, emphasizing the importance of these values despite approaching elections. "Although we are entering a political year, and soon we will hold elections, choosing legislative members, selecting the president and vice president, we must continue to maintain tolerance, unity, and peace," he said during the National Christmas celebration in  Surabaya on Wednesday (27/12/2023). During the event, the president encouraged Christians to set an example of diversity for the world, antaranews.com reported. "We want to continue to show the world that diversity is an inevitable natural law. Religious differences and diverse perspectives are becoming more acceptable in modern life," he remarked. However, President Jokowi continued, "the choice to live harmoniously and full of love is a good choice taught by God to us, which must be fought for and cultivated in our communal, national, and state life. Amid the challenges of the world marked by food crises, economic crises, inter-country conflicts, and even wars, we must remember and be vigilant," This year's National Christmas theme is "Glory to God and Peace on Earth." The theme conveys a special message about how Christmas celebrations can bring a sense of love, joy, and peace. The National Christmas event began with a worship service from 5 pm to 6 pm and continued with a celebration agenda featuring various music and dance performances from 6.30 pm to 8 pm. In addition to President Jokowi, several ministers from his Cabinet also attended the National Christmas Celebration 2023 at Graha Bethany in Surabaya.
