inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. President Prabowo Subianto revealed his plan to create vertical horticultural plantations in urban areas to support food self-sufficiency and food security programs.
According to the President, national food self-sufficiency must be realized in stages starting from the village, sub-district, district, then provincial levels. He also noted that urban areas must also play a role in supporting food security.
"In cities on the outskirts, we will create vertical fields, like this but can be tiered," said President Prabowo referring to the plantation land of the Indonesian Planting Movement (Gerina) in Banyuasin Regency, South Sumatra, Wednesday (4/23/2025).
The President continued that if one area of plantation land is 10 hectares, then if the land is made 10 levels, then the total area reaches 10 hectares.
The President emphasized that in realizing national food security, it must involve all groups in society.
"Every family, every community can participate in the awakening of our nation. The revival of a nation begins from the smallest unit. We want Indonesia to be self-sufficient in food. This means that every province must be self-sufficient, this means that every district must be self-sufficient, this means that every sub-district must be self-sufficient. If sub-districts must be self-sufficient, this means that every village must be self-sufficient," said the President.
Prabowo then emphasized that various modern agricultural technologies allow unproductive, dormant land, such as barren land and swamps, to be converted into productive land such as rice fields and plantations.
"We will see areas that have been said to be barren and make them green, we will make them prosperous. Now, we already have wheat seeds that can be planted in Indonesia. Soybeans can also be planted with high production in Indonesia," concluded the President.
