Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta.  President Prabowo Subianto, for the first time since taking office, led the Commemoration of the Proclamation of Independence during Indonesia’s 80th Independence Day at the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, on Sunday (17/8/2025).

Dressed in traditional attire, an ivory tunic and trousers paired with a maroon-gold songket, a black peci hat,  and jasmine garland, he presided over the ceremony after receiving the report from the Commander of the Ceremony. 

“The raising of the national flag and the reading of the Proclamation are not only rituals but also a reminder of the sacrifices made by our heroes and the unity that sustains our Republic,” he said in his speech, as quoted by antaranews.com.

The event began with the arrival of the Sacred Flag and the Proclamation Manuscript, paraded from the National Monument by royal carriage. A 17-cannon salute and sirens marked the Proclamation moment, followed by a solemn silence honoring national heroes. 

In the afternoon, President Prabowo also led the official flag-lowering ceremony.
