Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is working with the Indonesian Embassy in Maputo to secure the repatriation of nine Indonesian crew members stranded aboard the LPG tanker Gas Falcon off Mozambique since early 2025.
“The vessel, a Gabon-flagged tanker owned by Gator Shipping, first drew attention when its Indonesian crew reported three months of unpaid wages, which the embassy resolved in February. However, they have since requested sign-off again due to renewed salary delays and dwindling provisions,” said Judha Nugraha, the Director of Protection for Indonesian Citizens at Kemlu, in a statement on Sunday (17.8.2025).
To support the crew, the embassy dispatched food supplies and issued diplomatic notes to Mozambican authorities, according to antaranews.com
Yet legal issues with the shipowner remain a key obstacle, as regulators require replacement crew before the Indonesians can disembark.
The Foreign Ministry and the Ministry of Transportation are also pressing PT Ghafieca Samudera Line, the recruiting company, to expedite their release and return.
