Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. President Prabowo Subianto has issued a direct mandate to the Ministry of Health to fill critical staffing vacancies at approximately 4,000 community health centers, locally known as puskesmas, located in Indonesia's most underdeveloped, frontline, and outermost regions.
"We have asked the Health Minister to conduct a thorough census of our healthcare needs, particularly in 3T areas," said State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi after a strategic coordination meeting at the Ministry of Defense on Tuesday (17/3/2026), as cited by antaranews.com.
Data reveals that of the 10,000 clinics nationwide, nearly 40% still lack adequate medical personnel, specifically general practitioners and dentists. To address this shortage, the government is introducing a revised incentive scheme where specialist doctors deployed to these remote regions will receive a monthly allowance of Rp30 million.
To further support these professionals, the Ministry of Health is accelerating the construction of decent housing and the distribution of modern medical equipment through the SIHREN program, ensuring that primary care facilities in the archipelago's furthest reaches are equipped to provide essential services.
