Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta.President Prabowo Subianto called for unity among Developing Eight (D-8) member states to strengthen efforts supporting Palestinian independence and peace in Lebanon.

Speaking at the 11th D-8 Summit in Egypt’s New Administrative Capital on Thursday (19/12/2024), he stressed that division weakens collective advocacy.

“We must work closely, speak with one voice, and avoid division. For thousands of years, we have been fragmented under the principle of divide et impera,” President Prabowo said, referring to a historical strategy of creating or exploiting divisions among groups to maintain control over them. 

He noted that D-8 nations, representing some of the world’s largest Muslim populations, hold significant potential to influence global discourse but are hindered by internal conflicts.

“From Sudan to Libya and Yemen, Muslim leaders continue to clash. How can we support Palestine if we remain divided?” President Prabowo asked, as quoted by antaranews.com.

While humanitarian aid for Palestine and Lebanon exists, he criticized the lack of unified, concrete action to address their sovereignty and security.

“Unity is essential. Without it, our calls for peace and independence will never be heard,” the president said.
