Inp.polri.go.id – Jakarta. Chairperson of the Press Council Ninik Rahayu admits that violence against journalists has become the issue that often occurs during the 2024 election stages.
“The rates of journalists who are being harassed during the election has come to our attention as we prepare preventive response mechanism and handling,” says Ninik during the Analysis and Evaluation and Function Coordination of Indonesian National Police (INP) PR Division in Jakarta, Thursday (11/21/2023).
Furthermore, she states that it requires an encouragement to establish mechanism of journalists protection from abuse, in election context included. This is due to media who has the important role in realizing 2024 peaceful election.
“It requires the improvement of press literacy, regional government, Biological Control Agency (APH), and the general public,” Ninik adds.
Moreover, since the start of 2023, Press Council have received reports of rejections and harassment towards press freedom by security officials, politic parties, and unknown individuals. This has to be highlighted as this case has become more frequent lately.
