inp.polri.go.id - Manado. North Sulawesi Regional Police Chief Inspector General Yudho Hermanto personally traveled along the Tondano River to see the river's flow and clean up trash and water hyacinth that could potentially trigger flooding on Tuesday (11/3/2026).
This activity is part of the Blue Policing program, which prioritizes aquatic ecosystem protection, disaster prevention, and public safety through cross-agency collaboration.
Together with personnel from the North Sulawesi Regional Police's Water and Air Unit Directorate, the Sulawesi I River Basin Office, Basarnas (National Search and Rescue Agency), and the Manado City Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), Yudho traveled along the five-kilometer river, from Maumbi, North Minahasa, to Dendengan Luar, Manado.
Yudho stated that protecting the aquatic environment is a crucial part of the police's efforts to protect the public from various threats, including natural disasters.
"Through Blue Policing, we want to raise awareness that protecting rivers is not only about environmental cleanliness, but also about public safety. We shouldn't wait for floods to occur before we act," Yudho said.
During his patrols, Yudho also picked up trash and cleared water hyacinths that were obstructing the flow of water. He also distributed basic food aid to residents living along the banks of the Tondano River, particularly in the Kairagi area.
According to Yudho, flood prevention efforts require collective action.
Therefore, he continued, the police presence in the community is not only focused on addressing security disturbances but also encouraging preventative measures against various risks that threaten residents' lives.
