Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta.  The Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education plans to collaborate with multiple sectors to reduce incidents of violence against teachers across Indonesia.

Primary and Secondary Education Minister Abdul Mu'ti, stressed on Wednesday (30/10/2024)  the importance of a preventative approach, noting that cases like the assault on Supriyani, a teacher from South Konawe, Southeast Sulawesi, are not isolated.

“This issue goes beyond individual cases. To effectively tackle it, we need upstream solutions,” he said, as quoted by antaranews.com..

The Ministry is seeking cooperation with the Indonesian National Police (INP) to both address violence and strengthen character education.

“We’ve informally discussed this with the INP Chief, and we’re scheduling a meeting soon to coordinate further,” Minister Mu’ti said.

He also suggested the potential for community-based education initiatives, partnering with organizations such as Nahdlatul Ulama (NU). NU’s "Gerakan Keluarga Maslahat" (literally the beneficial family movement) program aims to foster supportive environments for student development within communities.

“When schools teach good values, communities should reinforce them,” Minister Mu’ti added.
