inp.polri.go.id - Medan. The Medan Sub-regional City Police Narcotics Investigation Unit arrested an employee of the Medan Class I Correctional Institution, identified as ES (34), suspected of being a courier for 599 electronic cigarettes (vapes) containing narcotics.
"The perpetrator, a resident of Glugur Rimbun Road, Pancur Batu District, Deli Serdang Regency, is suspected of having acted as a drug courier twice, lured by the IDR 20 million reward," said Medan Sub-regional City Police Narcotics Investigation Unit Chief, Superintendent Rafli Yusuf Nugraha, in Medan on Monday (11/2/2026).
Rafli said the arrest was made after receiving information from the public regarding suspected drug trafficking activities involving the perpetrator.
Officers then conducted an investigation and arrested ES as he was about to get into his car in the parking lot of a hotel on Setia Budi Road, Medan City.
"We confiscated two bags from the perpetrator, each containing three plastic bags containing drugged vape cartridges. The initial quantity was 600 units, but the perpetrator used one, leaving 599 left," Rafli said.
Based on the investigation, ES had previously delivered 50 vape pens containing drugs to the Lubuk Pakam area, Deli Serdang Regency.
In this case, the perpetrator again acted as a courier, transporting a larger quantity of evidence. Rafli said ES was lured by the promised IDR 20 million reward.
Regarding ES's status as an employee at the Medan Class I Prison, Rafli stated that the police are still investigating the case and will coordinate with the prison authorities where he works.
Based on the preliminary investigation, the vape cartridges containing drugs were not being sold within the prison. However, the police are continuing to investigate the possible involvement of other parties.
ES's urine test also tested positive for drug use.
Rafli stated that ES obtained the hundreds of vapes from someone with the initials AL, who is suspected of being the supplier and ordering the perpetrator.
"We guarantee that we will arrest AL. There will be no room for drug offenders. In accordance with the motto of the National Police Chief, together we will rehabilitate users and break the chain of dealers. The police are with the community," said Rafli.
