Jayapura Sub-regional City Police Chief, Superintendent Fredrickus Maclarimboen said that the chaos following a protest by Cenderawasih University (Uncen) students resulted in four personnel being injured and one operational vehicle of Jayapura  Sub-regional City Police burned.

The protest that took place on Thursday (5/22/2025) took place at the gate of the Uncen Waena campus.

"The mob attacked by throwing rocks at police members, causing four people to be injured, and burned an operational truck," said Jayapura Sub-regional City Police Chief Superintendent Fredrickus Maclarimboen in Jayapura, on Thursday (5/22/2025).

According to him, the protest by the students resulted in four members of the Jayapura City Police being injured and having to receive treatment at the Jayapura Bhayangkara Hospital.

The incident began when students rejected the increase in the single tuition fee (UKT) which ended in chaos, causing friction with security personnel.

"We only secured the area around the campus gate, and did not enter the campus area. In addition, the protest also did not have permission from the Jayapura Sub-regional City Police," said Fredrickus.
