inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Ministry of Public Works (PU) is ensuring the readiness of national road and toll road infrastructure and is deploying 24-hour field service to ensure the smooth flow and safety of public travel.
The Secretary General of the Ministry of Public Works, Wida Nurfaida, stated that the government has prepared various anticipatory measures to ensure the smooth flow of Eid homecoming and return traffic.
"To support the smooth flow of Eid homecoming and return traffic in 2026, the Ministry of Public Works is ensuring that all national roads are in good condition. Currently, the length of national roads reaches 47,603 km with a level of stability of around 93 percent," explained Wida, Thursday (3/19/2026).
Furthermore, the Ministry of Public Works is also preparing a full field alert system through posts and emergency response teams operating 24/7, including the deployment of 1,461 Disaster Relief Units (DRUs) equipped with equipment and personnel for infrastructure emergencies.
"We also provide a command post and an emergency response team on standby 24/7. This team is tasked with identifying locations prone to landslides, flooding, and congestion, while ensuring a rapid response if any disruptions occur in the field," said Secretary General Wida.
To maintain the quality of road services, the Ministry of Public Works has been carrying out various preservation projects since the beginning of the year, including pavement overlays, pothole patching, bridge repairs, and drainage normalization.
To date, more than 102,000 potholes on the national road network have been repaired, and repairs will continue to be carried out quickly if new damage occurs during the homecoming period.
With these measures, the Ministry of Public Works ensures that any potential road disruptions can be addressed promptly to avoid disrupting the smooth flow of travel during the peak homecoming period.
To maintain optimal road capacity, the Ministry of Public Works has ensured that construction work on road surfaces will be temporarily suspended from 10 days before Eid al-Fitr to 10 days after Eid al-Fitr (March 11 to April 1, 2026), except for emergency operations such as repairing damage that could potentially endanger road users.
"We have temporarily halted all construction work on our roads to avoid disrupting the smooth flow of homecoming travelers," said Secretary General Wida.
Meanwhile, on the toll road network, there are currently 76 operational toll roads, totaling 3,115 km, equipped with 136 rest areas and 581 toll gates to serve the needs of travelers traveling home.
Furthermore, all bridges on the national road network are guaranteed to be in functional condition, with a total of 19,337 non-toll bridges, spanning approximately 565,000 meters, ready to support smooth public mobility.
"We are ensuring not only that the infrastructure is ready, but also that on-site preparedness is ongoing 24/7, so that people can travel home safely and comfortably," explained Secretary General Wida.
