Inp.polri.go.id – Jakarta. Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) continue to modernize the irrigation for the improvement of national food sustainability.
According to the Secretary General of PUPR Ministry, Mohammad Zainal Fatah, Indonesia currently has Irrigation Area of 9,136,028 hectares. To support food sustainability, PUPR Ministry set various measures to fix the irrigation sector.
The effort includes build and developed new irrigation network. Then improving operation management, maintenance and rehabilitation of the old irrigation network.
“Moreover, we modernized the irrigation to improve service capability to be more effective, efficient, and sustained,” says Zainal on Friday (10/20/2023).
Zainal says the irrigation modernization effort was realized through several activities such as improving and renewing the reliability of water supply as well as improving facilities and infrastructure. Then irrigation system improvement, and solidifying the management institution and human resource.
“Through irrigation modernization, we expect an improvement in irrigation service as a whole,” explained Zainal.
He adds the modernization begins in Rentang, West Java, who waters 87,840 hectares of rice field. He predicts the modernization of irrigation in Rentang could improve gardening index in the area.
“We predict in 2025 the index would grow as much as 280%,” Zainal predicts.
