inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) assessed that the rapid response of the regional government and the joint team is the key to controlling forest and land fires (karhutla) which have the potential to spread during the dry season transition in mid-June-July 2025.

Head of the BNPB Disaster Data, Information and Communication Center Abdul Muhari said that the rapid response by the joint firefighting team had controlled the forest and land fires in Lima Puluh Kota Regency, West Sumatra Province and Toba Regency, North Sumatra.

"The forest and land fires hit the Harau hills area, Lima Puluh Kota Regency on Monday (6/9/2025), and have been extinguished immediately even though it was hampered by the steep, rocky geographical conditions and which were dangerous for firefighting team personnel," said Kapus Abdul, Tuesday (6/10/2025).

BNPB continues to encourage a more prepared team in dealing with forest and land fires under the local governments, including through integrated patrols, early detection of hotspots, and community education.

BNPB also reminds the public not to clear land by burning and to immediately report if they find a hotspot so that the firefighting team can immediately extinguish the fire as early as possible.

Ministry of Forestry data recorded that as of Thursday (4/22/2025) the total area of national forest and land fires was 3,207 hectares, with details of 1,227 hectares on peat land and 1,980 hectares on mineral land.

The three provinces with the largest forest and land fire areas are Riau (699 hectares), West Kalimantan (494 hectares), and Aceh (296 hectares).
