inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Ministry of Environment (KLH) has asked regional governments to set aside village funds to support waste management, especially at the household level.

"This village fund should not be all for infrastructure. At least one or two percent are used for waste management at the household level," said Special Staff of the Minister of Environment Bagus Hariyanto on Tuesday (11/5/2024).

According to him, this method is done to overcome the financing constraints that local governments often experience in dealing with waste problems.

Bagus explained that waste management involves all parties, both at the central government level through the State budget to local governments through the participation of the Regional budget to the village government budget.

"Waste management cannot be done by the central government or the regions alone, that is impossible. We have to work together as we are the one who produced the waste. That is also why we have a shared responsibility to manage these wastes," said Bagus.

The waste issue is one of the priority issues of the Ministry of Environment and Forestry, including plans to prohibit waste generated from hotel, restaurant and cafe activities from being dumped in landfills.

Later, the ministry will issue regulations so that the tourism sector does not dump its waste in landfills, but processes it directly at the source.

For inorganic waste, he said, it can be implemented by collaborating with waste management partners, one of which is for recycling.
