inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Minister of Religious Affairs Nasaruddin Umar emphasized that the Ministry will not tolerate any form of violence or sexual harassment in religious educational settings.
"There is zero tolerance for acts of sexual violence. I will never tolerate any act that violates human dignity," said Minister Nasaruddin on Wednesday (5/6/2026).
This statement was made in response to a case of sexual violence allegedly perpetrated by a kiai (Islamic cleric) against a student at an Islamic boarding school in Pati, Central Java.
Nasaruddin emphasized that religious educational institutions must be safe and dignified spaces for students.
"Religious educational institutions must be the safest place for children to learn," he stressed.
According to him, his ministry has strengthened regulations and guidance mechanisms within religious educational institutions to prevent various irregularities in Islamic boarding schools.
The Ministry of Religious Affairs has also established an Islamic Boarding School Development Unit to strengthen supervision and prevent irregularities.
