Inp.polri.go.id - Cebu. President Prabowo Subianto has urged ASEAN nations to accelerate the development of regional energy networks, citing global pressures and Middle East instability as urgent threats to energy security.
Speaking at the BIMP-EAGA Special Summit in Cebu, Philippines, on Thursday (7/6/2026), the President emphasized that energy resilience is now an immediate necessity rather than a long-term goal.
"Energy security is one of the most critical issues we face today. With increasing global pressure and instability in the Middle East, this is no longer a long-term problem, but an urgent one," President Prabowo said, as cited by antaranews.com.
He highlighted the sub-region’s vast potential in solar, wind, and hydropower, noting Indonesia’s own target of achieving 100 GW of solar power.
The President further called for concrete steps to strengthen connectivity, including the expansion of the Trans Borneo Power Grid. He stressed that realizing these clean energy projects requires secured funding, technical expertise, and deepened partnerships with regional development allies to ensure long-term stability and food security across the region.
