Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Minister of Home Affairs Tito Karnavian, acting as the Head of the Task Force for Sumatra Disaster Rehabilitation, announced on Monday (26/1/2026) that residents in disaster-hit areas of Aceh are authorized to utilize wood logs swept away by recent floods for reconstruction efforts.

"Following the President’s directive during recent meetings, we invite the community and local governments to utilize this timber for disaster recovery," he said, as cited by antaranews.com.

The Task Force reported that significant quantities of timber have accumulated along the borders of East and North Aceh. Residents are encouraged to process the logs into planks for rebuilding homes and bridges.

For smaller timber unsuitable for construction, the Ministry is coordinating with the Ministry of Forestry to establish procedures for selling the debris to local industries, such as brick-making facilities or power plants (PLTU) in North Sumatra, to serve as fuel. This dual-purpose strategy aims to both provide free building materials to survivors and clear debris-clogged waterways more efficiently.
