Second Inspector Andi Irwan, the Chief of the South and Central Krayan Police Office, said that a cargo aircraft belonging to Smart Air airline vanished during its Tarakan-Binuang route in North Kalimantan, with reports emerging from residents who heard an explosive sound, indicating a possible crash.
"We've received reports from local farmers near the suspected crash site, describing hearing an explosive sound," he said on Friday (8/3/2024), as reported by antaranews.com.
In response, Chief Andi mobilized four personnel from the South and Central Krayan Police, accompanied by locals using off-road motorcycles, to reach the suspected crash site of the Smart Air aircraft.

The cargo aircraft, a Pilatus Pc6 operated by Smart Air, was reported missing on Friday morning after departing from Juwata International Airport in Tarakan at 8.25 am local time. It was scheduled to land in Binuang, Krayan, Nunukan, at 9.25 am..
